While studying law, Bart worked for several years as a paralegal in the IT department of the law firm Stibbe and as clerk of the court in Utrecht. He was admitted to the bar in 2002 as a lawyer with Bird & Bird. Bart worked in the Telecommunications, IT and Media Department until 2005 and subsequently in the IP Department.
Bart specialises in intellectual property law, e-commerce and IT. He currently advises companies on intellectual property rights and internet-related issues such as copyright and database protection and the operations of websites. He also has extensive experience in legal proceedings relating to patents, trademarks, trade names and unfair competition.
Bart gained experience as an in-house counsel through secondments with a mobile telecom operator and an oil company. During these secondments he negotiated various commercial contracts including interconnection contracts and major procurement contracts regarding satellite services, virtual networks and (open source) software.
Bart is familiar with the legal issues in the IP and IT sector as well as the operational and economic background and is an author of various articles regarding IP, IT and e-commerce.
