Richard is a senior associate in the firm's Sports Group having joined the team from Linklaters in 2004. Richard specialises in advising sports clients on a range of commercial matters, including sponsorship and other marketing rights, merchandising and licensing, brand management, event organisation and broadcast and new media contracts.
Richard has represented international and national governing bodies, clubs, event organisers, venue owners, individual athletes, agencies, publishers of sports content (in all media), sponsors and suppliers across a variety of sports including football, rugby union, tennis, cricket, golf, athletics and motor sport.
Richard’s recent experience includes advising:
· the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games on its commercial programme for the 2012 Olympics, including on the sponsorship, supply and merchandising agreements with its first three top tier partners: Lloyds TSB, EDF Energy and Adidas; · HSBC on its sponsorship of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships and the HSBC Champions Golf Tournaments; · British Lions Limited on the commercial programme for the 2009 British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa; · Cricket South Africa on the sale of the international broadcasting rights to South African cricket; and · Andy Murray on the renegotiation of his tennis equipment deal with Head.
Richard is also a contributor to the next edition of the leading industry text, Sport: Law and Practice (published in 2008).
