After graduating in chemistry Mark was employed as a research chemist by Monsanto SA.  Whilst working for Monsanto, Mark was awarded his PhD for his research into catalysis of industrial processes.  Before joining Bird & Bird Mark worked at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, where he undertook medical research.

Mark joined Bird & Bird as a trainee and qualified into the Intellectual Property Department in 1999.  He works on a broad range of litigious intellectual property matters, particularly patents.  Recent cases that he has been involved in include pan-European patent litigation for Agilent Technologies (HPLC equipment), multi-jurisdictional patent litigation for Allergan (botulinum toxin), several patent actions for Actavis (pharmaceuticals) and trade mark litigation for Globe GB Limited (designs on the side of shoes).  Mark advises a range of clients on regulatory matters in the pharmaceutical and food sectors.  He also has experience in drafting intellectual property agreements and licences, conducting intellectual property audits, EPO and OHIM oppositions and advising on intellectual property aspects of international corporate transactions including IPOs.
