MArk Heaney
Mark is a partner in Bird & Bird's Intellectual Property Group. He specialises in contentious matters and his practice covers a broad range of intellectual property work with a focus on patents, copyright and related rights.

Mark has a particular interest in the electronics sector and has been involved in a large number of computer and electronics related matters including Alcatel v Marconi (concerning a patent relating to cross-connects for use in SDH telecommunications networks), Storage Computer v Hitachi (a patent action concerning RAID data storage systems), Intel v VIA (concerning patents relating to various aspects of microprocessors and processor buses), DRS v NCS (software patents in the education sector) and Halliburton v Smith International (patents relating to the design of petroleum drill bits using computer modelling techniques). Other actions in which Mark has acted relate to technology such as optoelectronic devices used in high-speed data transmission networks and the operating systems of internet routers.

Mark has a BSc in Computer Science and was employed as a software and electronic engineer before qualifying as a solicitor in 1998.
