Ernst Barten is a tax consultant and joined the office in The Hague in 2005. He started his career at Arthur Andersen in 1997 and joined the law firm Stibbe in 2001 where he was mainly based in its New York office. Ernst holds a degree in Tax Law from the University of Amsterdam. He speaks English, Dutch and German.

Ernst advises on a wide range of international and Dutch domestic tax matters relating to commercial corporate transactions including:

• counselling (international) corporations in tax matters relating to (de) mergers, acquisitions, joint-ventures and corporate reorganisations (including financing issues);
• advising financial institutions on structured finance transactions and financial instruments;
• advising telecom companies on the tax aspects relating to building/owning and transferring fixed cable networks;
• advising on the tax matters relating to Public Private Partnership (PPP) transactions;
• structuring pan-European real estate investment funds for global operating property developers and property investors;
• representing companies in tax litigation.
