Kate Morton

As a Special Counsel in our Tech & Comms, Commercial and Corporate Groups in Sydney, I advise our leading clients on a wide variety of technology, communications and IP law issues, where my experience as a software engineer and consultant gives me additional practical insight.

I have experience in negotiating and drafting private sector and government (including defence) procurement contracts for technology and consulting services and advise on the legal aspects of cloud computing, data protection and emerging technologies. In addition, I assist in business and share sale transactions for technology-rich companies. My experience also encompasses the regulation of the telecoms and defence industries.

Before joining Bird & Bird, I was a senior software engineer with Nokia Telecommunications in Cambridge, UK and then a senior software consultant with Rohde and Schwarz in Munich, Germany. I also worked for several years with a large contractor developing software and systems for major Australian defence projects.
