Evelien Melzer



Evelien draws upon her experience of working as an in-house counsel to understand her clients' businesses so that she can provide tailored legal advice which truly addresses their needs.

Evelien is an associate in our Commercial Practice, and is based in The Hague.

Evelien focuses on commercial contentious and non-contentious matters in the information technology and other technology-based industries. She also has a particular interest in the fashion retail, media and sports sectors. She has broad experience in drafting and negotiating IT contracts, as well as in advising on cross border e-commerce and outsourcing projects. Her expertise covers both front end (websites and compliance) and back office (development, hosting, maintenance, and logistics processes).

Furthermore, Evelien's work includes advising and negotiating, agency, distribution, franchising and licensing contracts. Evelien also has experience in the field of online business-to-consumer matters and advises clients on various advertising, sponsorship and promotional campaigns including those using social media. Evelien has substantial in-house experience. She has been seconded to several major companies in the TMT and Life Sciences sectors. An example is her secondment to a major international Electronics & IT company, where she advised the business on a variety of commercial legal matters and negotiated major contracts as senior legal counsel of its Telematics business unit. She is also a member of our Media Group.

She joined us in 2005 having graduated from the University of Groningen where she studied civil law, specialising in business law. During her studies she spent six months at the University of Siena (Italy) as part of the Erasmus exchange programme.

Evelien is a member of various professional Dutch associations, including the Association for Media and Communication Law (VMC) and the Association for Distribution, Franchising and Agency Law (DFA).
