Emma works on a range of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters, with a particular emphasis on trade mark, brand protection and portfolio management.
Emma is a junior associate in our Intellectual Property Department, based in London.
She is actively involved in UK and Community Trade mark oppositions, revocations and invalidity proceedings for clients across the food and beverages, telecommunications and media sectors, and has particular expertise in bringing appeals to the General Court. Emma has recently assisted clients transfer large trade mark portfolios to the firm, has worked with UK and EU Customs offices to establish and administer EU-wide anti-counterfeiting programmes and has advised on regulatory labelling requirements for food products.
During a six month secondment to an key financial services client, Emma acted as Trainee Legal Counsel within the Global Intellectual Property team, helping to co-ordinate an international brand protection programme, undertaking clearance work and negotiating licence and sponsorship agreements. Emma was praised for her ability to work seamlessly with in-house business teams, legal counsel across several jurisdictions and senior stakeholders. Emma has continued to work with the client to help protect and enforce their rights from online infringement.
Emma obtained a first class honours degree in Law with European Studies from the University of Exeter in 2012, and joined us in 2013. Emma has excellent knowledge of written and spoken legal and professional Spanish, having studied Spanish Law at the University of Deusto, Bilbao as part of her Law degree.
Emma regularly contributes to the Journal of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) and acts as the Intellectual Property Contract Foundations Project client liaison for food and beverages clients.
