René understands the challenges of the energy sector and multi-utilities companies, and the regulatory and politically ambitious environment that surrounds them.
René is an Energy and Regulatory partner at our Munich office, and joint head of our International Energy and Utilities Sector Group. He is also a member of our Regulatory & Administrative Practice Group.
He leads a large team of energy lawyers and regulatory experts in Munich specialising in all areas of law related to energy and utilities clients. He particularly focuses on regulatory, energy, public procurement and environmental as well as planning and construction law aspects and renewable energy projects both in Germany and internationally.
René's clients include large corporations, public and private companies, both in the traditional energy and utilities world covering gas, electricity, water, district heating, sewage and services; as well as renewable energy projects such as photovoltaic, wind, biomass, biogas, power to gas and geothermal projects.
René and his experienced team advise on all legal and contractual aspects: from power generation to transmission, distribution and consumption, covering the broad range from power plant project agreements down to consumer energy supply agreements. He advises on all regulatory and public sector issues relevant to his (semi-)private clients in relation to state and federal administrative agencies and regulators as well as German procurement review boards and courts.
René holds a Juris Doctor degree of the University of Tennessee College of Law (USA). He is a regular contributor to legal journals and publications and a lecturer at seminars in public international, European and constitutional law at the faculty of law at The University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and is frequently called upon by clients to prepare expert opinions.
