Matthias Spilker joined Bird & Bird’s Frankfurt office in 2010. He is a member of Bird & Bird’s national and international Automotive Group as well as Bird & Bird Germany’s Commercial Practice Group.
Matthias advises international and domestic companies on a variety of commercial and corporate matters. His practice predominantly comprises drafting of, advising on and negotiating complex commercial contracts as well as standard agreements. He also provides advice on any relevant liability issues as well as risk avoidance strategies. His industry focus is on automotive clients.
From 1999 to 2004 Matthias studied law at the German Universities of Marburg and Münster. Subsequently he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for International Commercial Law and Centre for European Private Law at the University of Münster and under a scholarship at the Institute for Comparative Law at the University of Lyon (III). During this time he did a PhD in the field of corporate and finance law.
From the end of 2006 to the beginning of 2009 Matthias did his legal traineeship in Dortmund and Munich. Afterwards he did a one year masters (LL.M.) in International Trade Law in Bristol (U.K.). Matthias was admitted to the German bar in 2010.
