Baran specialises in German and European competition law.
Baran is an associate in our Competition & EU practice group and is based in Dusseldorf.
He advises clients from various business areas on German and European competition law and EU State aid law matters. He represents his clients in proceedings before German authorities and the European Commission as well as in court proceedings.
Before joining us in January 2016, Baran worked for several national and international law firms in Cologne and Dusseldorf and gained extensive knowledge and experience in his field of practice. He also worked as a research assistant at the Institute for European Law Studies at the University of Cologne.
Baran studied law at the University of Cologne. Additionally, he completed a master program in German-Turkish Business Law (LL.M. İstanbul Bilgi/Köln). In 2015 he completed his doctoral thesis on procedural guarantees in German and EU competition law at the University of Cologne.
During his legal traineeship, Baran worked for an international law firm in Dusseldorf and gained insight into the work of the Directorate-General of the European Commission in Brussels.
Baran worked as a lecturer at the University of Cooperative Education (IBA) in Cologne and has authored publications on EU and competition law. He speaks German, English and Turkish.
