First M&A deal for Bird & Bird in Hungary

17 March 2009

Bird & Bird has closed its first M&A deal in Hungary, following the firm’s launch in Central Europe in September last year.

The Budapest office advised leading insurer, AXA Insurance Zrt, in relation to its acquisition of General Agent Kft, a tied insurance agent company originally outsourced by AXA in 2006.

András Lendvai led the Bird & Bird team in Budapest, which also included Bálint Halász and Titusz Puskár. General Agent Kft was advised by local Hungarian firm 5000 Law Firm.

In September 2008, Bird & Bird announced the opening of four new offices in Central Europe (CE). The offices, all Greenfield investments, are located in the Czech Republic (Prague), Poland (Warsaw), Hungary (Budapest) and Slovakia (Bratislava) and are headed-up by leading technology, media & telecommunications partner, Stephen Kines, the former head of Linklaters’ Czech office.

"We were delighted to close the AXA deal as it is the first M&A deal for Bird & Bird in Budapest", András Lendvai comments. "We look forward to further developing our relationship with AXA and have already been instructed again in connection with another corporate transaction."
