Bird & Bird appoints structured finance expert Silvia Morlino in Italy

Silvia Morlino, who specialises in derivatives and structured finance, joins Bird & Bird as Counsel in the Banking & Finance Group to develop its Italian structured finance practice.

Silvia joins from Allen & Overy, where she contributed to the development of their Italian finance practice since they opened in Italy in 1998. She has remarkable experience in domestic and international capital markets transactions assisting primarily international banks in relation to debt issues, share issues in initial public offerings (IPOs), structured finance transactions, securitisation pursuant to law 130 and pursuant to English law,  covered bonds and insurance structured products (index-linked and unit-linked policies).  Silvia’s expertise on capital markets transactions is coupled with a deep knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework of banking, insurance and financial services sectors.

Most recently, Silvia advised Banca Imi in the negotiations of derivatives in relation to Covered Bonds issued by Intesa San Paolo and Banco Popolare.   She has also been working on several public finance deals starting from the initial government securitisations (Inpdap) up to development of regions and local entities recourse to the capital markets.   In the Lehman bankruptcy, she assisted Intesa San Paolo in relation to the close-out of derivative contracts with Lehman and primary insurance companies in the unwinding of Lehman structured notes and the related settlement agreements.  Silvia also advised the Italian Banking Association and more than 30 Italian banks and insurance companies as to the Icelandic Banks crisis and the filing of proofs of claim against Landsbanki Island hf., Glitnir Banki hf., Kaupthing Bank hf.

Silvia Morlino holds a LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science (1999), she was a Visiting Researcher at Harvard Law School (2002), and she holds a Phd in Law & Economics (2003).
