Bird & Bird builds on its Soft IP practice with the appointment of Phil Sherrell as partner

20 January 2011

Phil Sherrell joins Bird & Bird’s London office as partner and will be working with the firm’s international IP practice as well as supporting the other areas of practice in the London office with his reputation management expertise.  Phil joins from Eversheds where he was Head of its Commercial Team and will continue to focus his practice on reputation management, advertising and sponsorship disputes, and copyright litigation (especially in the Copyright Tribunal).

Phil’s practice looks after three main areas:
- reputation management, acting for a number of high profile corporates and individuals in preventing and/ or managing adverse media coverage;
- advertising and sponsorship, acting for blue chip clients on high profile sponsorship or advertising matters; and
- IP, including extensive Copyright Tribunal litigation as well as a stand-alone copyright/collective licensing practice.

Commenting on Phil’s appointment, Morag Macdonald, Joint-Head of the International IP Group, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Phil to the team. With his recognised position as a leading practitioner in reputation management and IP/media law, he will be an ideal complement to our existing IP and commercial practices.  We look forward to working with him to continue to grow our reputation as the market leader for IP and related laws and regulations across Europe and Asia.”

Phil Sherrell, commenting on his joining Bird & Bird, added: “I found the opportunity to join Bird & Bird irresistible. Their reputation in IP and TMT is second to none, which makes them a perfect fit for my IP/media practice.”
