International law firm Bird & Bird LLP has advised regular client Index Ventures on the recent £13m Series B round financing of Mimecast Limited, a holistic email management company offering SaaS-based email archiving, continuity, security and policy control. Existing investor, Dawn Capital, also participated in the round.

Founded in the UK in 2003 by Peter Bauer (CEO) and Neil Murray (CTO), Mimecast’s cloud based platform extends the capabilities of in-house email systems by incorporating bottomless storage, archiving, eDiscovery, spam/virus protection and continuous availability. It supports a global base approaching 2,500 customers across a number of industries including financial services, legal, manufacturing and the public sector and has offices in Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East and the Channel Islands. The company has experienced triple digit revenue growth in each of the last three financial years.

André Dubois, General Counsel of Index Ventures, said: “This transaction was another example of the consistently high level of service we receive from Angus Miln and the venture capital group at Bird & Bird.”

The Bird & Bird team was led by London Corporate partner Angus Miln, assisted by Aaron Archer and Joseph Jackson.  Angus Miln commented: “We are delighted to advise Index on another successful investment. Mimecast is an exciting, high growth company with an impressive management team. We wish them well.”

Mimecast was advised by Taylor Wessing (Howard Palmer, Charles Fletcher and Antony Woods). Dawn Capital was advised by Osborne Clarke (Julian Gamble and Andrew Overend).
