Bird & Bird promotes corporate lawyer to partnership

01 February 2009

International law firm Bird & Bird announces today the promotion of Stuart Blythe to the partnership. Stuart joined the firm in May 2008 from data communications provider, Viatel.

Stuart focuses on business transactions in the telecommunications sector, in particular M&A and restructuring. He was previously General Counsel at Viatel, where he was responsible for the company’s legal support across eight jurisdictions, and MCI International (now Verizon Business), where he advised on all commercial and corporate legal matters throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to his industry roles, Stuart practised as a corporate lawyer - again principally for telecommunications clients - in both London and New York.

Neil Blundell, co-head of Bird & Bird’s London Corporate Group, said; " Stuart’s promotion is a boost for our Corporate Group as his particular expertise in telecoms restructuring is strategically important in the current economic climate. We welcome him to the Bird & Bird partnership."

Commenting on his promotion, Stuart said; "I am delighted to become a partner at Bird & Bird. I look forward to helping the firm as it continues to strengthen both its growing corporate business and also its market leading telecommunications offer."

With over 100 lawyers, Bird & Bird’s International Corporate Group offers a full range of specialist corporate legal services for all types of corporate entity. The firm’s international footprint means that it can provide comprehensive corporate legal advice throughout Europe and Asia across all its key industry sectors.
