Five major IP appointments for Bird & Bird

25 April 2008

International law firm Bird & Bird announces today five major appointments in its International Intellectual Property Group.

Two patent attorneys in Germany are promoted to a partner-equivalent status. In addition, three lawyers are promoted to the partnership – two in Germany and one in the UK. All the appointments are with effect from 1 May 2008.

The promotions are as follows:

Daniela Kinkeldey and Michael Alt (both Munich) are the patent attorneys promoted to partner-equivalent status. Both Daniela and Michael have specialist life sciences expertise.

Ina vom Feld and Matthias Meyer (both Düsseldorf) and Patrick Kelleher (London) become IP partners. Ina focuses on the life sciences sector covering both patent and pharmaceutical law, and Matthias specialises in international patent infringement. Patrick primarily focuses on patent litigation and has particular experience in the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology fields.

These appointments follow Bird & Bird’s strong performance at this year’s Managing IP Global Awards ceremony in London. The firm’s International Intellectual Property Group, picked up three awards for “European Law Firm of the year”, “The European Patent case of the year” (for Nokia v. Interdigital) and “UK IP Contentious Law Firm of the year”.

Morag Macdonald, joint head of Bird & Bird’s International Intellectual Property Group, said: “These five key promotions demonstrate the robust shape of our international IP business and we congratulate them all on their success.”

Bird & Bird has a long established international reputation for its intellectual property expertise and is consistently rated a leader in the field by the major legal directories. The group, spread across 11 jurisdictions in Europe and Asia, provides a full range of IP law services concerned with the creation, protection, exploitation and enforcement of inventions, brands and trade marks, copyright and designs.
