Bird & Bird strengthens Dutch IP with the appointment of leading patent attorney Hans Prins

11 November 2008

International law firm Bird & Bird today announces the appointment of leading patent attorney Hans Prins, who joins the firm’s office in The Hague to head up its patent practice on the technical side.

Hans joins the firm from Arnold & Siedsma, experts in patent prosecution and opposition, where he specialises in advising and litigating for the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. Hans has extensive experience in representing international clients in cross-border IP patent proceedings – mainly dealing with pharmaceutical, biotech and chemical patents.

He is qualified as a European, Dutch and Belgian patent attorney and has experience in litigation and descriptive seizures both in the Netherlands and in Belgium.

Commenting on Hans’ appointment, Wouter Pors, head of IP in Bird & Bird’s Hague office, said; “We are very pleased to welcome Hans to the firm. The market for IP services is changing in the Netherlands: clients are now demanding more integrated services combining legal and technical expertise and as a leading patent attorney Hans’ appointment will enable us to offer a broader service to clients.”

Morag Macdonald, co-head of the firm’s International IP Group, added; “The ability to offer a joined-up IP service is becoming increasingly important and Hans will add his technical capability in the Netherlands in the same way that we already have such scientific expertise in the UK and Germany. Hans is the leading patent attorney for the pharmaceuticals and life sciences sector in the Netherlands and has an excellent reputation internationally, so his appointment will further strengthen our integrated International IP Group as well as our overall capability in the life sciences sector.”

Commenting on his own appointment, Hans said;" I am delighted to be joining a firm with such a strong international reputation for IP.  The ability to offer integrated IP services in the Netherlands is becoming increasingly important to clients, which is why I took the decision to join Bird & Bird. ”

Bird & Bird has a long established international reputation for its intellectual property expertise and is consistently rated a leader in the field by the major legal directories. The group, spread across 11 jurisdictions in Europe and Asia, provides a full range of IP law services concerned with the creation, protection, exploitation and enforcement of inventions, brands and trade marks, copyright and designs.
