Bird & Bird makes seven new partner appointments

International law firm Bird & Bird has appointed seven new partners. The appointments, which have been made across Bird & Bird’s international sector and practice groups, will bring the total number of Bird & Bird partners to 157. Richard Dissman (IP), Markus Koerner (IP), Martin Nebeling (Employment), Mark Heaney (IP), Ronald Hendrikx (Commercial), Mark Hilton (IP) and Hans Svensson (Corporate) will be made partners with effect from 1 May 2007.

Brief biographies are enclosed below:

Richard Dissmann is an intellectual property lawyer based in the firm’s Düsseldorf office. He works exclusively and has got a wide experience in all soft IP matters, especially in the fields of trade marks, designs, copyright, unfair competition, press and media law. His focus lies on litigation and enforcement, where he is an expert especially in product piracy and anti-counterfeiting matters.

Mark Heaney is an intellectual property lawyer based in the firm’s London office. He specialises in contentious matters and his practice covers a broad range of intellectual property work with a focus on patents, copyright and related rights. Mark has a degree in Computer Science and worked as a software and electronics engineer before qualifying as a solicitor. He has a particular interest in the electronics sector and has been involved in a large number of computer and electronics related matters, usually of an international nature.

Ronald Hendrikx is based in Bird & Bird’s London office where he is a member of the Commercial Group. Ronald is particularly involved in communications, IT and outsourcing projects, advising clients on large scale system integration projects. Apart from assisting in the initial tender processes, Ronald has specific expertise in the in-life management of technology projects. Having qualified and worked originally in The Netherlands, Ronald has invaluable experience in cross-border transactions involving multi-national clients.

Mark Hilton is an intellectual property lawyer based in the firm’s London office. He has extensive experience advising on all aspects of IP rights including patents, trade marks, copyright, designs and confidential information. He focuses on contentious matters and, having a PhD in Chemistry, has particular expertise in national and international patent litigation in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Markus Körner is an intellectual property lawyer based in the firm’s Munich office. He has extensive experience advising on all aspects of IP rights, in particular trademark and copyright law. He is providing contentious and non-contentious legal advice. Furthermore, Markus has broad expertise in the sports and media law, in particular sponsoring and licence agreements.

Martin Nebeling is head of the firm’s employment team in Germany, based in Dusseldorf. He has a certified specialisation in employment law (Fachanwalt fuer Arbeitsrecht) and advises German and foreign clients in the fields of individual and collective employment law, particularly in large commercial transactions. He is also experienced in negotiating redundancy programmes and collective bargaining agreements and has extensive experience of employment law litigation.

Hans Svensson is based in Bird & Bird's Stockholm office. He is a Corporate Finance expert with many years of experience from national and cross-border M&A, and from financing and capital structure issues. Apart from advising a wide range of clients on sales and acquisitions of companies and businesses, raising of capital (public and private), Hans also advises clients within the Aviation & Aerospace Sector on issues such as aircraft operational leasing and financing.
