Bird & Bird builds international dispute resolution team with Swedish hire

30 April 2007

Leading litigator joins firm’s office in Stockholm.

International law firm Bird & Bird has recruited one of Sweden’s leading litigators, Henrik Bielenstein to expand the firm’s dispute resolution capabilities in Sweden. Henrik will also play a key role in the growth of the firm’s international dispute resolution group following recent key hires in other offices across the firm’s network. Henrik will join Bird & Bird on 1st May.

Joining from Linklaters, where he was head of their litigation group for 5 years, Henrik brings over 25 years experience having acted in several complicated commercial disputes in court. He specialises in arbitration, litigation, particularly in contractual and professional liability as well as insurance law. He was at Linklaters since 2001, prior to which he spent several years at Lagerlof. He is one of Sweden’s leading and most experienced Supreme Court litigators.

Commenting on his appointment, Michael Frie, managing partner of Bird & Bird’s Stockholm office and Chairman of the firm said:

“We are very glad that Henrik has decided to join us. He is a first class litigator with an outstanding track record of well-known cases. He has been head counsel in 12 cases in the Supreme Court, which makes him one of the most experienced Supreme Court litigators still active in Sweden. There’s no doubt that Henrik will play an important role within our existing dispute resolution group which consists of around ten lawyers in Sweden alone”.

Commenting on his appointment, Henrik said:

“I am of course delighted to be joining Bird & Bird which has demonstrated considerable commitment to building its international dispute resolution capabilities and I’m thoroughly looking forward to contributing to this growth”.

In the past few months, Bird & Bird recruited arbitration specialist, Sophie Lamb from WilmerHale where she worked in Gary Born’s highly rated team. Sophie joined the firm’s team in the UK, while in Asia the firm recruited a team of lawyers led by Consultant Darren FitzGerald who is head of Bird & Bird’s Asian Dispute Resolution Practice. Darren joined from Minter Ellison.
