Bird & Bird expands international corporate team with Italian hire

17 October 2007

International law firm Bird & Bird has recruited its second corporate partner in the space of the month. Edoardo Courir joins Bird & Bird’s office in Milan shortly after Simon Fielder’s appointment as a partner in the firm’s London office. Edoardo joins Bird & Bird on the 1st of November.

With over 20 years experience including international transactions conducting a full range of business, M&A, competition and litigation work, Edoardo joins Bird & Bird from Studio Legale Tributario which works in association with Ernst & Young. He is also professor of Law and Economics at the Commercial University Bocconi of Milan. He joins Alberto Salvadè's team in Milan, which has recently experienced significant growth with several new assistants, and will also contribute to the development of the activities of our international corporate group.

Commenting on his appointment, Alberto Salvadè, head of the firm’s Italian corporate practice said:

“Edoardo is a very well regarded lawyer and brings extensive experience to the team. Our team in Italy has experienced substantial growth recently with the appointments of 5 assistants in the last few months. Edoardo’s arrival will make an important difference as we continue to grow and focus on providing legal services to domestic and international clients in M&A and capital markets transactions”.

Commenting on his appointment, Edoardo said:

“Bird & Bird has been developing its corporate group on an international basis and is very clearly focused on growth. The team in Italy is very well respected. I have known the team for a while and our synergies are very strong. I’m thoroughly looking forward to joining them”.

Bird & Bird’s international corporate capabilities now extend across the whole of Western Europe and into Asia. In the past couple of years, the group has undergone a number of significant developments with the appointments in the UK of partners Alistair Crellin from Pinsent Masons, Simon Allport from Jones Day and corporate tax lawyer Mathew Oliver from Lovells. In Düsseldorf, the firm also promoted corporate lawyer Jiri Jaeger to partner. Last November, the firm recruited Javier Vasserot from DLA Piper to launch a dedicated corporate practice in Bird & Bird’s office in Madrid and more recently recruited Harm van Berkum, a highly rated corporate/M&A partner to expand the firm’s corporate capabilities in The Hague. Bird & Bird’s international corporate group now consists of 35 partners and over 100 lawyers in all.
