Bird & Bird launches IP practice with team hire in Spain

International law firm Bird & Bird has recruited Manuel Lobato, an intellectual property partner, along with an assistant to launch a dedicated IP practice in Madrid. The team’s appointment follows the recruitment of another team of patent litigation specialists in France, reinforcing the firm’s international IP capability. Bird & Bird now has dedicated IP practices across all of its international offices.

A patent litigation specialist, Manuel brings a unique mix of academic and professional experience to Bird & Bird. Following 10 years as a Professor of Law in Madrid’s most prestigious university where he developed a prize-winning career, he joined Gomez-Acebo & Pombo as a partner before moving to Baker & McKenzie. He has advised a number of research-based pharmaceutical companies in issues relating to IP litigation, regulatory as well as contract law and is considered a leading IP specialist especially within the life sciences sector. He will be joined by assistant, Beatriz Díaz de Escauriaza who joins from Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.
