Bird & Bird boosts Life Sciences group with key hire

07 June 2006

International law firm Bird & Bird has recruited Sally Shorthose, to boost its International Life Sciences Group. Based in the firm’s London office, Sally joins Bird & Bird from Eversheds where she was head of their IP & Life Sciences Group. Sally’s appointment follows on from international developments across the group which has boosted its capabilities with key recruits joining its offices in Madrid and Paris.

As a non-contentious lawyer specialising in IP, commercial and regulatory issues for the bio-sciences and pharmaceutical industries, Sally brings invaluable experience to the firm which she gained from working both in private practice and industry. She spent 11 years working in-house, firstly as senior legal advisor at ICI/Zeneca and latterly as Legal Director of Novartis UK, where she was responsible for all legal matters for the Novartis Group within the UK. As well as working at Eversheds, Sally has also led the IP & IT team at Clyde & Co.

Commenting on her appointment, Trevor Cook, Chair of Bird & Bird’s International Life Sciences Group said:
“Sally will be a great asset. Her in-house experience has given her broad insight into the hi-tech and particularly bio-pharmaceutical sector. We have seen a spectacular growth in our work within the life sciences sector and having Sally on board will provide an important level of support to our clients”.

Sally added:
“I’m delighted to be joining Bird & Bird which has a first class reputation for the quality of its work in the life sciences sector – not just in the UK but on an international level. I’m very much looking forward with working with this first rate team”.
