Bird & Bird boosts IT group with team hire in Brussels

06 April 2006

International law firm Bird & Bird has recruited a team of lawyers in Brussels to boost its IT practice. Partner Benoit Van Asbroeck along with two senior assistants, Edwige Cottenie and Laurent Masson have just joined the firm from Loyens & Loeff. The team will play an important role in further developing the firm’s IT practice in Belgium and will contribute to the growth of the firm’s international team.

As ex-head of Loyens & Loeff’s IP, ICT and media practice group in Brussels, Benoit brings a vast range of experience to Bird & Bird. He has broad expertise in drafting and negotiating complex IT contracts and dealing with related disputes including outsourcing (off and onshore) processes. He also has extensive IP expertise especially in the areas of copyright, trademark and licensing. Benoit’s practice also has a heavy element of media work.

Laurent and Edwige will also be joining from Loyens & Loeff.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul Hermant, managing partner of the firm’s office in Belgium, said:

“Benoit’s background, personal reputation and entrepreneurial spirit make him an excellent choice for our already strong IT and media practices in Belgium. Benoit’s profile perfectly complements the practice built by IT and Aviation partner Catherine Erkelens and his experience of cross-border IT projects makes him an excellent fit with our wider international IT team”.

Benoit added:

“My team and I are very much looking forward to be joining Bird & Bird which has a first class reputation for IT and media work”.
