Key appointment boosts firm’s international media group

International law firm Bird & Bird has recruited David Quli, a film finance lawyer from Richards Butler. David will join Bird & Bird’s Media Group, in particular its UK based Film & TV Finance and Production team, as a partner. His appointment comes at an important time for the team which has in the past year worked on a number of major films including Woody Allen’s first UK venture “Match Point” and his second film made in London, “Scoop”.

A film finance specialist, David brings a wealth of experience to Bird & Bird having worked for a number of financiers and leading banks on film titles including "The Best Man", "The Truth About Love" and "An American Haunting". Particularly relevant to Bird & Bird's business is his exposure to cross-border media financing structures, an aspect of the practice which the firm will be looking to David to broaden across all of its media-related areas.

Commenting on David’s appointment, Peter Dally, head of Bird & Bird’s Film & TV Finance and Production practice said:

“I have always enjoyed working with David on deals as well as being impressed by his skill, strength and practicality, so I am extremely happy that David has chosen to work along side us as part of the team. His recruitment demonstrates our confidence in the future of the film and television industries and significantly strengthens our presence in this sector”

Commenting on his appointment, David added:

"With offices in all of the major European territories and a blue-chip media practice Bird & Bird has the potential to be the leading law firm in Europe for film financiers, producers and distributors. I look forward to working with Peter Dally and the rest of the Bird & Bird team towards achieving this goal."
