International law firm Bird & Bird has recently recruited a new tax team to boost its international tax group. Christian Luthman, a rated corporate tax partner from Linklaters, has joined the firm’s Swedish office where he will set up a new practice. Christian will also provide invaluable support to the firm’s international tax group which has recently grown in size with the appointment of Peter Fisher from Lovells in the UK and with the appointment of Pierre Gueret in France from the Office of Tax Legislation. The firm also has tax expertise in The Hague.

Rated as a leading tax lawyer for M&A in Euromoney’s International Tax Review, Christian brings over 20 years experience working for domestic and international clients taking on a range of corporate law for the financial services community. Following a period working for the state court system, he joined Lagerlöf in 1982 becoming partner in 1991. Lagerlöf merged with Linklaters in 2001.

Commenting on his appointment, Michael Frie, managing partner of the firm’s Swedish office said:

“I’m delighted that Christian is joining us. His appointment is an important development for us as we are now able to offer our clients tax support – a new offering which will not only help our Swedish clients but will prove invaluable to the firm’s international clients too. Christian is a first rate tax lawyer with an impressive range of cross-border experience. He is a perfect fit”.

Christian added:

“Bird & Bird is a rapidly expanding international business and I’m looking forward to contributing to that growth.”
