Leading IP Lawyer Joins Bird & Bird

01 September 1999

Matthew Laight, formerly a partner with Denton Hall, joined Bird & Bird's Hong Kong office on September 1 1999. His team, comprising three assistants Alison Wong, Rachael Chung and Georgia Chiu will accompany him.

Commenting on his appointment, Matthew said:

'Bird & Bird is a firm with an outstanding reputation, particularly in intellectual property and information technology. My team is excited by the prospect of working in such a dynamic and forward looking environment.'

Working closely with Vivien Crook, Head of Bird & Bird's Information Technology practice in Hong Kong, the new appointments will bring an Asia Pacific dimension to the firm's pan-European IP practice. The addition of a dedicated IP team will compliment the Hong Kong office's existing focus on IT, digital media and communications.

Morag Macdonald, joint Head of Bird & Bird's Intellectual Property practice said:

'We are delighted to have Matthew and his team on board. An Asia Pacific capability will augment our strong European IP team, enabling us to provide a seamless service to clients with international portfolios of intellectual property rights.'
