Bird & Bird partner Ed Cooke delivered a keynote speech at the Finance and Investment Forum for Data Centres & Cloud in London last week, to an audience of over 150 funders and investors from the data centre community.
During his speech Ed discussed how data centre developments are leading the increased convergence of the real estate and construction industries with other sectors such as IT, communications and energy.
Ed considered how this development was also occurring across the real estate sector particularly through the growth of "smart cities" highlighting how out-dated the commercial approach of the construction industry is in comparison to other sectors such as IT and energy.
Within his speech Ed also noted how important it is for the construction and real estate industries to develop new commercial approaches and innovate due to the "new " financial environment making it difficult to continue with the traditional approaches.
The Finance and Investment Forum for Data Centres & Cloud is recognised as the annual forum tracking the evolution of data centres as an asset class and is attended by the strategic and financial leadership of publicly quoted and private companies engaged in the data centre and cloud sector.
