Formula 1 wins trade mark infringement case

Formula One Licensing BV, holder of over 160 trade mark applications/registrations in China, including “F1” and “Formula 1” in Class 25 for “clothing”, authorised its licensee Formula One Management, to sue nine companies located in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing for selling garments bearing the “F1”, “F1 JEANS” and “F One” marks. Some of these goods were also offered for sale on the defendants’ websites.

In October 2006 the Beijing 2nd Intermediate Court held the defendants to be liable and should cease the infringing use. A total sum of RMB 140,000 was awarded in damages.
