The works council and co-determination concepts have a long history in Germany. Today they are regulated by statutory provisions and an abundant case law. German works councils can impact the local business of any global group of companies doing business in Germany.

The works council and co-determination concepts have a long history in Germany. Today they are regulated by statutory provisions and an abundant case law. German works councils can impact the local business of any global group of companies doing business in Germany. Up to now, many Chinese companies may not be fully aware of the roles and functions of German works councils, and how to work effectively with them. Especially in post-acquisition scenarios, a good working relationship with an existing works council will be key for the further success of a company.

The employment team of Bird & Bird has the pleasure of inviting you to our China Hour on the topic of German works councils and co-determination, which will explore the following issues:

  • The major aspects of the co-determination right
  • What are the rights of the members of a works council?
  • How is a works council funded?
  • How to communicate and cooperate effectively with a works council?

Dr. Catharina Klumpp will speak about the above issues based on her experience in handling broad HR questions including all dealings with German works councils.

The seminar is in cooperation with Chinese Enterprises Association in NRW e.V.

The seminar is free of charge. The language is English with Chinese translation.
