Author of Witcher novels demands additional royalties from video game developer

Author Andrzej Sapkowski claims to be entitled to a further 14 million Euros in royalties for his fantasy novels, 'The Witcher', which were adapted into a popular video game series of the same name. CD Projket Red, the developer of the game, has refused to pay this additional sum after Sapkowski previously accepted a fixed sum for the adaption rights of the Witcher franchise. However, Polish law covers a 'bestseller clause' allowing an author to claim additional benefits if their product is successful. It is unlikely that the dispute will go to court but if the dispute is not settled it would definitely be an interesting case concerning key issues for the creative sector.
