Michael Groß

Michael is a member of both the IT and IP groups at Bird & Bird. He has built an extraordinary reputation for his licensing work (patents, know-how, copyrights and trade marks) and for advising on research and development agreements. He advises his clients in all aspects of licensing law relating to intellectual property and information technology.

Michael Groß has extensive experience in Licensing (more than 4800 License Agreements since 1988), Research & Development Agreements, European (Block Exemption Regulations concerning Licensing and R & D) and German Antitrust Law. He is registered as an arbitrator with the German Arbitration Association (DIS, Bonn), ICC (Paris, France), International Arbitral Centre of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber in Vienna, TENOS AG and as an arbitrator and mediator at DIS, Chamber of Commerce (IHK) Munich, General Council of the Bar, Munich, WIPO (Geneva, Switzerland) and TENOS AG. He gives expert opinions by order of courts, European Commission or by order of private parties. Michael has conducted legal study for the European Commission 1995 titled Block Exemption Regulation No 240/96 (EC) Technology Transfer Agreements. He has also co-authorshed Model-License Agreement China – Germany (German Ministry of Economics), 1996 – 2003.

Michael Groß was admitted to the German bar in 1984 and joined the Munich office of Bird & Bird since its opening in October 2003 where he is based in addition to his activity as Head of the License Department of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Munich. Prior to that he worked from 1984 until 1987 in a law firm in Münster. From April 1997 until September 2003 he was an attorney at an international law firm in Munich. Michael Groß studied law in Münster and Bielefeld and obtained a doctorate in law from the University of Bielefeld in 1987

In addition, he is a co-author of several articles and books including The License Agreement, Stumpf/Groß, 8. Edition, Frankfurt a. M. 2005"; Groß/Rohrer, License Fees, Heidelberg 2003. Furthermore he is a speaker at various seminars on topics of licensing and research & development contracts since 1991.
