Juan joined Bird & Bird in August 2008.

Juan obtained his law degree from the Universidad Autónoma and holds a Masters in EU Law from the Universidad Carlos III, Madrid.  

In October 1998, Juan moved to Brussels where he undertook a stage within the State aids Unit of the European Commission’s Legal Service.  From 1999 to 2003, Juan worked at the Brussels office of Hammonds. He then moved back to Spain, where he was responsible for the EU Competition Team of Hammonds in Madrid from 2003 to 2007.  Juan then worked as a member of the EU Competition Team of McDermott Will & Emery from 2007 to mid 2008.

Juan has substantial experience in competition and State aid cases and regularly represents clients' interests before the European Commission and the Spanish Competition Authorities.

Juan also has extensive litigation experience before the European Courts in Luxembourg in cartel, State aid and staff cases.  Juan has in particular represented the European Commission before the European Courts on a number of occasions.

Juan is a member of the Editorial Board of World Competition, a journal specialising in Competition Law and Economics, published by Kluwer International. Juan is fluent in Spanish and English and has a working knowledge of French.
