Friedrich joined Bird & Bird’s Munich office in 2007. He is a German and European Patent and Trademark attorney and advises and represents clients in IP matters with a focus on matters in the field of telecommunication, semiconductor, laser and software technology. In particular, Friedrich has profound knowledge in advising clients in IP matters in the field of 3G and 4G telecommunications technology.

He represents clients in patent, trademark and utility model prosecution as well as in opposition and nullity proceedings. Friedrich also closely collaborates with Bird & Bird attorneys-at-law in infringement proceedings. In addition, Friedrich has broad experience in advising clients in patent validity, infringement and German employee inventor’s law issues. He represents clients before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the Federal Patent court, the Federal Supreme Court (in nullity proceedings), the European patent office and the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market.

Friedrich studied physics at the Technical University Munich with a focus on semiconductor and laser physics and electrical engineering. Friedrich obtained his diploma in physics in 1992 and his Doctorate in Laser Physics in 1995. After his work as a research assistant at the Technical University Munich, Friedrich joined Matsushita Electric Works AG (later Panasonic Electric Works Europe AG) in 1996. As the head of the Components Department he was responsible for the support of telecommunications clients and the B2B e-business. In 1999 Friedrich joined NSE AG (later Brainforce) where he was in charge of the e-business division as a Vice President. Before working for Bird & Bird, he joined IP law firm Grünecker, Kinkeldey, Stockmair & Schwanhäusser in 2002.

Friedrich was admitted as German Patent Attorney in 2005.

Friedrich is a member of the FICPI and the German Intellectual Property and Copyright Association (GRUR).
