Ewan graduated from the University of Bristol in 2001 with a BSc in Biochemistry and, having undertaken his training contract with Bird & Bird, qualified into the intellectual property department in September 2006.
Ewan has advised on a broad range of intellectual property matters, both contentious, including patent infringement and revocation actions, and non-contentious. He has worked with clients from a number of different sectors, including pharmaceutical companies, medical devices manufacturers and consumer electronics companies.
In particular, Ewan has worked extensively with life sciences clients on commercial matters including due diligence and advising on a range of IP issues relating to corporate acquisitions of biotech and pharma companies. In 2005, Ewan was seconded to a major international pharmaceutical company where he advised on a range of commercial arrangements, such as CRO research agreements, partnership and collaboration agreements.
Ewan has also acted for a major US consumer electronics company in the management and enforcement its high profile IP portfolio and brand throughout Europe.
Ewan is currently responsible for the legal & regulatory update in the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology.
