Alban is the Managing Partner of ATMD Bird & Bird LLP and has been in legal practice for over 25 years. He practices in the Intellectual Property and Technology Group which handles all aspects of intellectual property law, information technology and communications, computer law, advertising and entertainment law.

He represents major software companies, computer manufacturers, well known trademark owners, pharmaceutical companies, book publishers, international airlines and well known hotel chains, collection agencies and advertising agencies. He is currently involved in complex patent litigation and other contentious IP related cases.

Alban graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB (Hons)) and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1984. He also graduated from New York University with a Masters in Law in Intellectual Property (LLM (NYU) (Tr Reg)) in 1987. Alban was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1988 and as a Solicitor of England and Wales in 1997.  He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore.

He has written and presented many articles and papers on the various aspects of intellectual property law. He is also the author of the book Enforcing Injunctions and co-contributor of Essays on Computer Law, and general editor of A Guide to Singapore Patent Law. He is also the author of the Patent section of the Halsbury Law of Singapore and the Singapore chapter on Claims Construction. He has been consistently named as a leading IP lawyer in the Asia Pacific Legal 500, Guide to the World’s Leading Patent and Trademark Lawyers and Chamber’s Guide.
