We are attaching a double issue of our data protection update (December & January).  A lot has happened in the last two months. Our highlights are:

  • publication of the draft General Data Protection Regulation;
  • new ICO guidance on cookies;
  • two new monetary penalties in the UK (in each case where information was posted to the wrong addresses);
  • guidance from the Article 29 Working Party on the EASA Best Practice Recommendation on Online Behavioural Advertising; and
  • three UK court cases under the Data Protection Act - one of which includes an award of £17,000 in compensation following a security breach.
