The UK Government has called for evidence concerning its proposed release of 500MHz of public-sector radio spectrum. Mobile services are thought to be the ones with greatest requirement for increased spectrum capacity. European Commission Signs Voluntary Agreement With Industry Representatives Over Impact Assessments On Privacy In RFID Applications.
Concerns over the implications for privacy and data protection arising from future use of Radio Frequency Identification Devices has prompted the European Commission to sign voluntary agreements with ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency), EU privacy and data protection authorities, plus other industry representatives to ensure development of guidelines for all companies using such equipment in Europe. European Commission Consultation On The Future Of E-Commerce And The Implementation of The E-Commerce Directive.
The European Commission has noted that E-Commerce represents less than 2% of Europe's retail sales and is concerned that the E-Commerce Directive (2000/31/EC) may not have had the desired impact. The EC has therefore launched a consultation exercise on various issues including co-operation between Member States and with European bodies, contract issues arising from cross-border sales and in dispute resolution.
