Olaf specialises in civil actions and has a strong focus on media, internet and information technology; he regularly acts in urgent preliminary relief proceedings, but also enjoys strategic thinking in proceedings on the merits.

Together with Pauline Kuipers, Olaf leads the Media Group of our office in The Hague. He is also an active litigator in the Commercial Group.

Olaf specialises in unlawful press publications and misleading advertising. His expertise includes freedom of expression, naming and shaming as well as portrait, press and advertising rights. This work often involves advising companies and individuals who find themselves under attack from the media and can involve close cooperation with the client’s public relations advisors.

Olaf has a solid basis in contract and liability law and is very familiar with subjects as termination of negotiations, conformity and warranty claims (among others, in the event of acquisitions) and directors’ and officers’ liability.

He is regularly consulted by the second largest newspaper in The Netherlands, Algemeen Dagblad, regarding editorial issues. Olaf regularly appears before the Dutch Press Council and the Dutch Standard Advertising Agency.

Olaf joined us in 2008, having previously worked at Simmons & Simmons, where he led one of the biggest litigation departments in the Netherlands.

Olaf regularly acts as lecturer at conferences and seminars. He also enjoys providing in-house courses to our clients. He is a member of the Dutch Association for Media and Communication, the Dutch Association for Civil Procedural Law and the Dutch Association for Corporate Litigation.
