Catherine co-heads Bird & Bird’s International Aviation & Defence Group and is based in the Brussels office.

Catherine specialises in technology law, including e-commerce and data protection, and in aviation regulatory. She regularly advises clients in the aviation sector on a broad range of matters including IT, e-commerce and regulatory.

Most recently, Catherine advised on standardisation and certification of new Air Traffic Management products in the framework of the Single European Sky, as well as related liability aspects. She advises airlines and airline associations on new technology products in relation to data management.

Catherine’s broad regulatory experience includes advising on airport related legislation and litigating in a number of landmark cases in the aviation sector. She also leads litigation related to the services of air traffic control service providers.

Catherine led the Zaventem-tax case, a case concerning a groundhandling company that was allowed access to the Brussels Airport passenger handling market before the EU liberalisation, the planned Brussels Airport low cost terminal case, litigation on security charges, a case whereby the 0% commission system was allowed by the Belgian courts, litigation where commission on passenger service charges was avoided for the airlines, litigation in relation to selection procedures for groundhandling litigation in relation to IT procurement.

Catherine's aviation and IT and e-commerce practices have been top-tier ranked by EMEA LEGAL 500 since 2005.

Catherine is a founding member of the Brussels Aviation Law Forum, a member of the European Aviation Club and of IAWA, the International Aviation Women’s Association. She is a regular invited speaker at Technology and Aviation & Aerospace conferences and seminars.
