Brent heads the tax practice of our Brussels office. He focuses on corporate and international taxation. Before joining Bird & Bird, Brent worked in the Brussels offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and NautaDutilh.

Brent is the author of several articles and co-author of several books on the Belgian and international tax aspects related to specific transactions or industries, such as life sciences, securitisation, shipping & aviation, and e-commerce. Brent is the former editor of FiscalNet, a provider of on line tax documentation.

He is also a member of the Tax and Legal Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Belgium, and of the Belgian branch of IFA.

Brent studied law at the University of Ghent and at the Université Occidentale de Bretagne (France). He also completed a program in international tax law at the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Fiscales (ICHEC) in Brussels. Brent’s dissertation dealt with securitisation in Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.

He was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 1999 and speaks Dutch, French and English.
