Warsaw Banking & Finance seminar gathers major players in the sector
On 20 October, over 60 external participants, along with Bird & Bird partners and lawyers, discussed the latest trends in banking and finance services during a seminar held by Bird & Bird in Warsaw. The seminar – titled: ‘Technology & E-Money & Regulation & Business' – provided an overview of the latest European trends in the financial services sector in 2011 and featured Bird & Bird partners: Isabel Evans, Christian Bartsch, Brett Israel and Trystan Tether (all from London), Fabian Niemann (Frankfurt) and Stefano Febbi (Milan), as well as Aleksandra Widziewicz and Slawomir Szepietowski, co-heads of Banking & Finance practice in the Warsaw office.
The presentations generated lively debate among the audience, particularly on the subjects of technology, electronic money and the MiFID directive. Maciej Gawronski, partner and head of Warsaw, who hosted the technology Q&A session, engaged in animated discussions - mostly relating to cloud computing - with several banks' CIOs and IT supplier representatives.
Maciej Gawroński, partner and head of Warsaw office added: ‘based on the feedback received we are confident that our effort has already brought results in terms of the perception of Bird & Bird in Poland. It has also led to an immediate invitation to pitch to draft a model IT documentation for one bank and we believe that it will bring further tangible results soon.’
Among the attendees were representatives of major financial institutions, both Polish and international.
Bird & Bird’s partners to the conference were the Polish Chamber of Commerce and The Polish Bank Association. The official media partners were ‘Bank Financial Monthly Magazine’ and ‘Rzeczpospolita’ - the largest Polish business daily. The latter featured an article on the conference the following day. |
